Plugged In: Are Cigarette Butts Litter?

You can call it the cigarette butt crackdown.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Franklin County Environmental Crimes Unit is sending out “guilt letters” to anyone caught throwing cigarette butts or other litter from their car.

Anyone who witnesses littering can get the offender’s license-plate number and report it to an anti-littering hotline.

The litterbug won’t get a ticket, but will get a “guilt letter.” The county hopes the letters will deter littering.
