OCALA, Florida -- A Florida man is accused of child abuse for allegedly putting bleach in his baby's bottle.

Police say Carron Washington, 20, poisoned his daughter Caelynn, two months old, by mixing a cap full of bleach with her baby bottle.

Washington admitted to giving his daughter bleach, and said it was an innocent but stupid decision based on some bad parenting advice.

"I was told by another friend of mine that giving baby a top of bleach, just the top of it would help her breath a little better," Washington said.

Washington said his daughter has had breathing problems since birth.

"It wasn't a smart thing to do," said Washington's sister Chianti. "But Carron doesn't know. This is his first baby."

"It was a dumb decision on me. I heard someone else did it so I wanted to try to help her," Washington said.

The little girl is recovering in a Gainesville hospital.

The Department of Children and Families is investigating. Washington has been ordered to stay away from the infant when she comes home from the hospital.

He faces a felony charge of child abuse. If convicted, he could get up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He's being held on $25,000 bond.
