My Town: Celebrate John Glenn Friendship 7 Day

CLEVELAND — The Great Lakes Science Center and NASA Glenn Research Center is hosting two days of hands-on fun to commemorate John Glenn Friendship 7 Day.

The Great Lakes Science Center is featuring scientific and engineering-related events beginning February 16 to honor the day. A visit by current astronaut and Ohio native Suni Williams to talk about life in space will kick off festivities at 11 a.m.

The events will last through President’s Day weekend.

On “Space Saturday” Science Center visitors can take part in the following presentations:

  • Digital Learning Network Rover – control a robotic rover over the Internet
  • NASA Mars Rover landing on Xbox 360 – try to land Curiosity using an Xbox!
  • Experiment with light, photonics and “invisible light”
  • Hear NASA engineers talk about their work in radio and optical space communication
  • Meet Eva, NASA’s larger-than-life astronaut who loves to meet new people!
  • Picture Yourself in Space photo booth – get your free picture taken in a space-themed backdrop.

John Glenn Friendship 7 Day is on February 20. The day celebrates Glenn’s participation in the United State’s first orbital space mission on February 20, 1962.
