Police: Man Steals Heirlooms from Elderly Woman

CONCORD, TWP., Ohio — A man was arrested after police said he admitted to stealing several family heirlooms from an elderly woman in Concord Township.

Michael Bertone faces a felony count of theft in the case.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, an 80-year-old Tanglewood Trail woman reported that items including a silver tea pot and a sterling silver cigarette case from the 1700s had been taken from her home.

Police learned that Bertone was the son of one of the victim’s caretakers. He admitted to police during two separate interviews to stealing the items. He also admitted to stealing jewelry and other silver flatware from the home, said police, and that he later sold them.

Bertone told police he took the items when he was in the house with his mother, while she was taking care of the victim.
