CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Police are warning people on the city's west side that burglars are on the prowl pretending to be snow shovelers.

Some residents have heard about the scam.

"I just heard that people are going up and down Jay and 65th looking in windows and asking people if they want their driveways shoveled," said resident Nicholas LiCata.

Cleveland police said the snow shoveling scammers have burglarized at least two homes off Detroit Avenue. One was near Gordon Square on West 65th Street the other near West 81st Street.

"It's wrong, but what can you do," said Jose Rodriguez.

Police and residents are urging their neighbors to be vigilant.

"If you see somebody snooping around someone's house, make a phone call. Come out, knock on a door. Go, 'Hey, I saw somebody at your house earlier.' I don't think that's asking too much of anybody around here," LiCata said.
