Police: Man in Minivan Shoots Store Owner

CLEVELAND — A man turning in for the night experienced a violent turn of events after he locked up his store on Friday.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, Melvin C. Appling, 36, was shot and robbed as he was getting into his vehicle around 9:15 p.m.

A sky blue minivan headed his way in the 7800 block of Woodland Avenue.  As it pulled up, police said a masked man got out of the passenger side and fired.

Appling was hit in the left side just above his hip.  He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

His vehicle was also damaged by bullets.
