CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers will be without the “Wild Thing” for another 6 to 8 weeks.

Center Anderson Varejao, who was injured in a game against the Toronto Raptors on December 18th, will undergo knee surgery Thursday at the Cleveland Clinic.

Varejao’s injury was originally diagnosed as a right knee contusion. However, the team sought a second opinion as Varejao struggled during his recovery.

An MRI revealed a small longitudinal split in the vastus medialis. Then, an ultrasound showed that tissue from underneath the split was herniating and pinching with knee flexion.

Before the injury, Varejao was enjoying one of his finest seasons as a pro, averaging 14.1 points and 14.4 rebounds per game.
