LORAIN, Ohio — The mayor of Lorain says the city needs to implement better ways to combat crime, according to the Lorain Chronicle-Telegram.

The call follows the deadly New Year’s Day shooting that killed one man and injured three others. A suspect, Desmen Noble, was arrested for the crime the following Wednesday.

Mayor Chase Ritenauer has asked for residents’ help in identifying suspects of crime in the area. He has also asked that the community work with police in helping police gather information and solving violent crimes.

Lorain is also implementing other ways to combat crime. The mayor and other city officials have reportedly asked Ohio’s Division of Liquor Control to revoke the licenses of bar owners serving customers after hours. The city is also asking judged to increase jail bonds and tighten sentencing for repeat law offenders.
