Midlothian, VA (WTVR) — A woman in Virginia says her Christmas present was an unwelcome surprise.

She says when she opened her iPad box, it didn’t have a shiny new tablet … but a bunch of paper notepads.

Mary Liz Bergstein said she and her husband filed a police report, then took the box and notepads back to Walmart.

She says the store manager gave them the runaround until they contacted the media.

The Bergsteins say the store eventually gave them an upgraded version of the iPad they bought, but they’re afraid for other buyers.

There have been other instances across the country where people have purchased iPads from Walmart, only to have the boxes filled with paper.

The Bergsteins say they plan to open all electronics before they leave the store.
