LORAIN, Ohio — An abused and neglected dog has been making strides in his recovery, but recent tests show he’s about to fight his biggest battle yet.

According to the Lorain Animal Clinic website, biopsy results show that Herbie has underlying cancer.

The pit bull mix was found outside of an abandoned home on West 11th Street in Lorain on Dec. 1.

He was extremely underweight, blind in one eye and had a fractured skull.

The Lorain Animal Clinic stepped in to care for the dog, who has made progress and can now walk on his own.

His caretakers say despite the new finding, Herbie is in good spirits, eating and gaining weight.

Reward money is available for information leading to the person responsible for Herbie’s mistreatment.
