UNIONTOWN, Ohio --  Uniontown Police are investigating several burglaries in various communities including Hartville, Stow, Mansfield and Wayne County.

The two suspects are responsible for a series of destructive burglaries at different local businesses.

The most recent break-in occurred on Thursday around 3:30 a.m. at Hartville Coin & Jewelry on Edison Street NW.

A masked man with a large ax and an accomplice burglarized the store and smashed several of the glass showcases and then stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry.

Although detectives can’t say what leads they’re following up on, they did reveal that the suspected getaway car is a red SUV and the partner appears to be much smaller and is possibly female.

Christmas shoppers at the plaza were stunned to learn of the break-in.

“A place like this a family oriented place.  Bring your kids, go shopping and enjoy it, and for something like that to happen, it’s just unthinkable,” said Nancy Hastings.

Shoppers say they hope police catch the bad guys very soon before they ruin anyone else’s holidays.

“It’s bad enough with the economy down like it is for the merchants and buying public,” said Jim Wilk.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
