Guardrail Impales Car During Accident

CLEVELAND — A driver was hospitalized after striking a guardrail, causing the metal to impale the vehicle.

The accident happened on the West 25th Street entrance ramp to I-71 south on Saturday at 8 a.m.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, the Cleveland Division of Fire extracted the driver, Amy Vitelli, 36, of Amherst.

She was taken to MetroHealth Medical center for severe injuries to her left side and leg.

No other vehicles were involved, police said.

The Accident Investigation Unit was assigned to look into the crash.
