CANTON, Ohio — Make it 29 straight wins for Coach Tiger LaVerde and his defending Division V State Champion Kirtland Hornets.

Senior quarterback Scott Eilerman threw two touchdown passes, and All-Ohio tailback Damon Washington rebounded from a subpar game in the Regional Final, to score three touchdowns as the Hornets crushed an overmatched Baltimore Liberty Union team, 41-7, in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score.

Kirtland raced out to a 28-0 halftime lead, and never looked back.

One week after allowing a season-high 37 points to Youngstown Ursuline, the Hornets defense was dominant Saturday, forcing three Liberty Union turnovers and not allowing the Lions to score until the Kirtland starters were watching from the sidelines.

Kirtland (14-0) has now won 29 straight games and 41 of its last 42. One of those wins came over Coldwater (14-0) 28-7 in the 2011 Division V State Championship Game.

The same two teams will square off next Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Massillon Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
