NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Two suspected mail thieves have been arrested, according to the North Canton Police Department.

Police arrested Edward L. Dugan, 59, and Tonya S. Carpenter, 39, of Columbus and charged both with two counts of identity fraud and four counts of theft.

The pair is suspected to be behind four incidents of mail theft from residential mailboxes on October 22. Police say victims put outgoing mail in their mailboxes to be picked up by the U.S. Postal Service, but the suspects intercepted the outgoing mail before pick-up. In two cases, checks were stolen and the information used to access victims’ accounts.

Authorities believe the suspects may be involved in several other incidents in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. The case remains under investigation by local authorities and the FBI.
