AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are looking for the person who opened fire on two people in a drive-by shooting on a busy street, killing one of them.

Akron police hauled away a maroon, 2000 Oldsmobile Aurora. Just before 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, someone in a dark-colored SUV opened fire on the car, killing a 31-year old man and injuring a 28-year old man, whose injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“I had just got here and then I heard like seven gunshots, and then I ran outside and there was someone over there, they were like hanging out the car, they got shot up,” said witness Vince White.

Police say the men were shot inside the car near the intersection of Copley Road and Edgewood Avenue.  They say the car then rolled across a yard and stopped in the parking lot of a nearby gas station.

“We sitting on the porch, I seen a car, burgundy car flying down here, I here the ‘skert’, hear the car ‘skerting’ hit the corner right here…next thing you know, nobody get out the car or nothing, and the police came,” said witness Marcus Junius.

“It caught you off guard, you see a car flying through a yard, hopping the curb, like, then like don’t nobody get out, that’s gonna catch you off guard,” said witness Steve Hightower.

Police are trying to figure out why the shooting happened, and neighbors are stunned that it happened on a busy street in broad daylight.

“I didn’t hear no gunshots, I didn’t hear any gunshots, that’s why I was surprised when they said it happened when they were coming down this hill,” said Junius.

Akron police are looking for a full-sized, charcoal gray SUV with a bumper decal showing the image of yellow lips.  Part of the license plate shows the numbers “2129.”
