Cleveland Tops for Innovators
Mayfield Heights-Northeast Ohio is one of the best places in the country for entrepreneurs. That was the take home message Wednesday from a program called “Unleashing Innovation.” The program was part of the Corporate Club Series at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights.
Speakers were Jim Free, NASA Glenn Deputy Director, Baiju Shah, CEO of a company called BioMotiv, and Dr. Luis Proenza, President of the University of Akron. I moderated the forum. All three speakers emphasized that the Cleveland area is rapidly becoming the place to be for innovators. Shah said, “In certain sectors, medical being one of them, there is no better place in the country to be an entrepreneur. And it is because of the level of support one can get in this community. The access that you have to great institutions to do the work and through those institutions to partners across the world and the level of talent that is amassing around these institutions right here in northeast Ohio.”
Shah believes the Medical Mart in Cleveland will be a major boon to local entrepreneurs and will attract other innovators from around the country to set up shop in Cleveland. The Medical Mart will be renamed eventually to reflect its emphasis on showcasing innovation, Shah said. The facility will open in the fall of 2013.
