CLEVELAND– Legislation by Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed will provide free meter parking downtown on Black Friday, November 23 and the day after Christmas.

In 2008, Reed successfully gathered the support of his colleagues to pass free holiday parking at city meters for downtown shoppers. The legislation waives fees at downtown meters on the days after Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Councilman Reed led this effort as an economic boost to the city by enticing local and suburban shoppers to patronize downtown establishments during the holiday season.

“This move gives us the opportunity to compete with free parking available at malls in the suburbs on Black Friday,” says Councilman Reed.  “It will help draw holiday shoppers who may be looking to shop in Gateway, E. 4th Street or other locations in downtown.  We want to offer a convenience for holiday gift buyers who are looking for something special among our unique downtown shops, restaurants and attractions that cannot be found in the typical suburban strip mall.”
