CLEVELAND — The driver accused of hitting a 12-year-old girl then taking off was charged on Wednesday with aggravated vehicular assault and failure to stop after an accident.

Cedric Francis, 23, had been arrested the day before in connection to a Sept. 14 accident at West 31st Street and Denison Avenue in Cleveland.

Katie Adkins, a 7th grader at Brooklyn Middle School, was trying to cross the street to get to the playground when she was hit.

Adkins doesn’t remember the accident.

She suffered numerous injuries, including two breaks on her pelvis, two breaks to her jaw and a bruised spleen.  Her femur was cut in half and she was very badly bruised.  Her jaw also had to be wired shut.

There is a fund set up to help with medical bills at Third Federal Bank under Katie Adkins.

Francis was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.
