FNTD Playoffs Week 2: Friday’s Regional Semifinals

CLEVELAND, Ohio —  The 2012 OHSAA High School Football Playoffs continue this weekend, starting with Regional Semifinals in Divisions II, IV, and VI.

FOX 8’s Friday Night Touchdown will have crews at eight games across Northeast Ohio, including the following match ups:


The Chardon Hilltoppers put their 9-2 record on the line at Mentor’s Jerome T. Osborne Sr. Stadium against the Kenston Bombers who come into the game with a 7-4 record. One of those losses happened on their home field earlier in the season at the hands of the Hilltoppers, 29-28. Chardon opened the playoffs with an impressive win over Warren Howland while the Bombers knocked off Tallmadge on their home field.  Kenston, already this season beat the Chagrin Falls Tigers, halting their 20 game regular season winning streak.

Also on Friday night, the Kent Roosevelt Rough Riders, with just one blemish on their record match up with the Aurora Greenmen, who also come into the game at 10-1.  The 7:30pm affair at Hudson Memorial Stadium-Murdough Field features the versatile Zach Quinn of Aurora and his teammates against the very dangerous quarterback of the Rough Riders, Tra’von Chapman.


Avon High School, the 2011 State runner-up in Division 2 takes a 10-game winning streak into the contest against undefeated Tiffin Columbian at Fremont Ross Harmon Field. The Avon Eagles feature the very dangerous Ross Douglas, who has verbally committed to play college ball at the University of Michigan.

Also in Region 6, Mansfield Madison (10-1) faces Toledo Central Catholic (10-1) at Sandusky Perkins Firelands Regional Medical Center Stadium.


In Division IV, unbeaten Brookfield, fresh off its solid win over Ashtabula Edgewood takes a perfect 11-0 record into its game against Akron Manchester at Twinsburg Tiger Stadium. The Panthers squeaked past the Hawken Hawks 21-14 in week one of the playoffs. 

Creston Norwayne, defending state champion in Division IV had an impressive opening game in the 2012 playoffs as they beat Northwestern 48-7, upping their record to 11-0. Friday night they put their perfect mark on the line against the 9-2 Youngstown Liberty football team at Uniontown Lake Alumni Field. Norwayne scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to beat Northwestern handily in that week #1 playoff match up.


Mogadore is very used to playing in the postseason. On Friday night the 11-0 Wildcats take on Berlin Center Western Reserve at Ravenna’s Gilcrest Field. The Wildcats have twice hit the 60 point mark in games this season and put up 49 points in their first playoff game.

The Malvern Hornets with a 10-1 record face number 6 seed Youngstown Christian School (8-2) at Akron St. Vincent St. Mary John Cistone Field-Green Street Stadium. Malvern shut out Harding 21-0.
