PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio — A 16-year-old from Garrettsville was killed Tuesday afternoon when he lost control on the wet pavement and hit a pick-up truck.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it happened about 4 p.m. on state Route 88 north of state Route 305 in Nelson Township.

Nicholas D. Stock, 16, was driving north on state Route 88 when he lost control at a curve in the road, according to police.

Stock’s vehicle slid and rotated as it went left of center. It then hit the front end of a pick-up truck being driven by Richard A. Bonner, 62, of Mantua, who was traveling southbound, police said.

Stock, who was wearing a safety belt, was killed. Bonner suffered minor injuries.

Alcohol is not suspected to be involved, and the crash is still under investigation.
