SOLON, Ohio — An internationally known chemical company is shutting its doors on a local plant.

The Dow Chemical Company is cutting about 2,400 positions and shutting down about 20 facilities worldwide, including its base on Bainbridge Road in Solon.

The company said it has plans to consolidate the Solon plant’s assets with another plant in Georgia sometime within the next two years.

The changes are the result of a restructuring effort to reduce costs.

The company makes products used in the construction of roads and bridges.
