Toledo Man Wins Akron Marathon

AKRON, Ohio – Thousands of runners took over the streets of Akron on Saturday for the Akron Marathon.

For the first time in its 10-year run the event was sold out.

“That’s 2,000 in our marathon and 4,500 in our half marathon and it’s just an exciting thing,” said Race Director Jim Barnett on Friday as runners were busy picking up their registration packets at the John S. Knight Center.

The winner of the race was Richard Kessio, 38, of Toledo, who finished in 2:18:51.

The runner who placed first among women was Shanna Ailes Istnick, 34, of Kent, whose time was 2:55:09.

The Akron Marathon aims to promote health and fitness while stimulating the local economy.
