Moving Tribute to Fallen Officer
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A moving tribute to a Cleveland Clinic and Willoughby police officer who died in the line of duty was published to YouTube.
The video shows still pictures of Jason Gresko on the job and with family.
Ryan Myers, who posted the video, wrote, “This is a tribute to fallen officer Jason Gresko. Jason was killed in a car accident responding to assist his brothers in blue. Jason was an excellent father, husband and one of the most genuine officers I have ever met. I am so proud to say that I had the opportunity to serve with Jason for over 5 years. The honor that he brought to the badge everyday will live on in each and every officer he worked with and every person he touched throughout his years. I hope you enjoy.”
Gresko, 32, passed away on Friday night after his cruiser collided with a pickup truck on Harmony Lane and then hit a tree in Willoughby.
Police said Gresko was responding to a call to help another Willoughby officer.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. No charges have been filed.
Gresko leaves behind a wife and a 2-year-old daughter.
His family said he died doing what he loved to do, and that’s protecting and serving the citizens of northeast Ohio.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Monreal Funeral Home in Eastlake. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m.
Willoughby, where Gresko worked part-time since 2003, hasn’t lost an officer since 1955.
He has also been a full-time Cleveland Clinic police officer for six years.
A Jason Gresko Memorial Fund has been set up in his honor.
Contributions to the fund can be made made to the Western Lake County F.O.P. in care of Officer Jason Gresko at any local Huntington Bank.
