WASHINGTON, D.C. — National Zoo officials say a panda cub died of liver abnormalities.

Doctors say it had liver problems and fluid in it’s abdomen. But they won’t know the actual cause of death for a few weeks.

Zoo officials are now focusing on the mother panda, Mei Xiang. They say although she’s been sleeping well, she’s been cradling a small toy.

Zoo keepers say the panda house will remain closed until Mei Xiang is feeling better.
