NEWTON TWP., Ohio -- State troopers are investigating a crash that killed a husband and wife Friday night.
According to the Ohio State Patrol Trumbull County Post, the crash happened on South Canal Street around 10:30 p.m in Newton Township.
Authorities say Jamie Danes, 37, and his wife, Emily Danes, 29, of Portage County, were driving along South Canal when an on-coming vehicle hit the couple head on.
The couple was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members of the couple say they were on their way home from a dinner and movie. They were celebrating their wedding anniversary. The couple leaves behind an 8-year-old son.
The other driver, 42-year-old Paul Wodianka, was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers he has had legal troubles in the past. Wodianka has been arrested several times for OVI, he was convicted twice and one charge was dismissed while another reduced.
He also has two outstanding bench warrants out of Austintown Court in Mahoning County. One for failure to appear on a drug case and a probation violation.
He remains free at this time while the Ohio State Patrol and Trumbull County Prosecutors office investigate. Most likely the case will go to the Trumbull County grand jury to determine if charges should be filed.
Authorities say alcohol and drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
The couple's funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home in Ravenna.
A fund has been established for the couple's son. Donations are being accepted at any Cortland Bank Branch in the name of Brendan Danes.
