MASSILLON, Ohio — The Massillon Fire Department announced an arrest had been made on Thursday in the case of a playground arson.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, his or her name was not released.

Fire crews were called to Shriver Park on Johnson Street SE in Massillon on Sunday for two separate fire incidents.

Around 6:41 p.m., an engine company was dispatched and discovered a couch on fire near the basketball courts.  It did not cause much damage.

Then at 8:04 p.m., another engine company responded to a report of a swing on fire.

The city-owned park is estimated to have received $80,000 to $90,000 in damages in the blaze.

Officials are treating the fires as separate incidents and continue to investigate despite the arrest.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Massillon Fire Department at (330) 833-1053.
