LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio -- The Lorain County SWAT team shot and killed a man early Saturday morning after he barricaded himself inside a home.

At around 1:30 a.m. sheriff’s deputies came to the home on Dewitt Street. Authorities tell Fox 8 a man on the front porch fired a shot from his weapon into the air and went back inside.

After the county SWAT team made several attempts to negotiate with the suspect, he allegedly engaged officers and they shot back.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities explain that a woman and two children were inside of the residence when the violence was happening, but were able to get out of the home unharmed.

"It's kind of scary, knowing somebody's out there firing away, and you are in here asleep," said Joseph Washington, who lives on Dewitt.

The Lorain police were also called in to help with the SWAT situation.  The suspect’s name has not been released.
