Man Dies After Struck by 2 Cars on I-77

CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS, Ohio — A man died Sunday night after being struck by two cars on Interstate 77, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

It happened just before 10 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-77, near milepost 158.

According to OSHP, Matthew Scott Jakubecz, 31, of Garfield Heights, pulled his car over to the right side of the road, got out, then entered the southbound lanes.

That’s when, officials say, he was struck by a car in the middle lane, before getting hit by a second car in the far left lane.

Jakubecz was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The two drivers involved in the crash have not been charged.

Further details, including why Jakubecz exited his vehicle, were not immediately released.

The accident in under investigation.
