Beachwood continued its recent resurgence Saturday with a convincing 21-6 season opening win over Gilmour Academy.  The Bison, coming off a 6-4 season in 2011, displayed a stout defense and a potent offensive attack, led by new starting QB Corey Jones, who showed off the running skills that helped him gain nearly 700 yards from the running back position last season. Beachwood’s three-headed running attack carried the load, in addition to Jones, tailbacks Nate Hamilton and Jordan Lake combined for more than 300 yards on the ground. Hamilton carried 17 times for 185 yards and a touchdown, while Lane chipped in with 14 carries for 117 yards and 2 scores.

Gilmour showed some flashes, but the Lancers were hurt by penalties and turnovers, and several failed fourth down conversions.

Beachwood (1-0) travels to Orange (1-0) next Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 pm, while Gilmour (0-1) plays host to Tuscarawas Central Catholic on Saturday, September 1 at 1:30 pm.
