Oberlin Soldier Wounded in Afghanistan Dies

OBERLIN, Ohio — A soldier from Oberlin died after he was wounded while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, the Department of Defense confirmed on Thursday.

Sgt. Louis R. Torres, 23, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on Aug. 22.

According to the Department of Defense, Torres encountered an enemy improvised explosive device on Aug. 6, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Elderly Woman Robbed, Attacked at Giant Eagle

MACEDONIA, Ohio — An arrest has been made in the robbery of an elderly woman, weeks after the crime occurred, Macedonia police said Thursday.

Kimberly Tromski, 43, of Uniontown, is charged with robbery and felonious assault.

Detectives say she robbed, then knocked an 82-year-old woman to the ground on the property of Giant Eagle on East Aurora Road.

High School Football: Thursday Highlights

Friday Night Touchdown: Thursday Edition saw the first high school football games of the 2012 season. 

Canton Glen Oak welcomed Firestone to town.  The Eagles were playing for the first time in a long time without running back Bri’onte Dunn, he’s playing at Ohio State.
