KEARNS, Utah — Oregon resident Kristin Riccitti burst into tears when she learned her border collie “Sara” was found in Utah after two years being lost.

Sara ran away from a friend’s home in Salem, Oregon and Riccitti spent months trying to find her.

“I put up pictures and flyers around the area and called different vet clinics in the area,” said Riccitti. “As time went on, I definitely felt more and more hopeless.”

Riccitti was stunned when she got a phone call from Kearns, Utah letting her know Sara was here, 800 miles away. A woman spotted the border collie roaming around Butterfield Canyon and took her to West Lake Animal Hospital in Kearns.

“She wanted her to be scanned for a microchip and it was an AVID,” said Riccitti. “So I called the AVID and they gave me a number for a clinic in Oregon.

“Two and a half years later to get a phone call like this is just amazing,” says Riccitti.

Riccitti has yet to see Sara and is anticipating their reuniting this weekend.

“I can`t wait to see what`s she like. Is she the same? Will she remember me? So many thoughts are going through my head,” said Riccitti.
