Arrest Made in Death of Boy, 8, Shot While Sleeping in Bunkbed

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Authorities have made an arrest in the death of an 8-year-old boy who was killed while he slept in his bunk-bed.

According to Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley, Shawn Wilson, 21, was arrested in connection with the murder of Bryce Linebaugh of Maplewood Court.

Police had identified Wilson as a person of interest in the crime. He surrendered to authorities on Monday evening.

Linebaugh was shot by a stray bullet fired from across the street. Linebaugh was struck by the bullet shortly after 1:00 a.m. Monday.

Foley says that Linebaugh was struck in the head by one of several bullets allegedly fired by the suspect. The boy was sleeping in the top bunk in his bedroom when he was shot.

Police say Wilson fired as many as 12 rounds at the home of Linebaugh and a neighbor.

According to Foley, Wilson and a man in the apartment complex where Linebaugh lives got into an argument earlier in the day and Wilson returned with a gun. Police say Wilson fired shots into complex, shooting into the wrong apartment.

Police believe that a semi-automatic gun, potentially an AK-47 assault rifle, was used in the murder.
