(CNN) — The saga of Evelyn Lozada’s marital dispute with football player Chad Johnson (formerly Ochocinco) has reached a breaking point.

The same day she released a statement saying she hoped her new husband would seek help after this past weekend’s alleged altercation, reality star Lozada has filed for divorce. The couple have been married for six weeks.

Lozada’s attorney, Michael Gilden, said, “My only comment on the matter is that given recent events in my client’s life, she has decided to file for divorce and move forward with her life.”

Initially, there were plans for Lozada and Johnson to have their own show on VH1, the network that also hosts Lozada’s ensemble reality program “Basketball Wives.” Those plans have swiftly dissolved after a dispute over the weekend that led to Johnson’s arrest and allegations of domestic violence.

In a statement Tuesday, Lozada said she is “deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me.” She added, “It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not OK and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well.”

CNN continues to pursue comment from Johnson.

CNN’s Jane Caffrey contributed to this report.
