Justin Verlander is seemingly invincible. But on Thursday night, the Indians got to the All-Star and Cy Young pitcher in the seventh inning and beat the Motor City baseball team 5-3 at Progressive Field.

Down 3-1, the Tribe bats got cranking in the seventh. Carlos Santana ripped a solo homer and Travis Hafner followed with a shot of his own and the game was tied. The Indians did not let up. Asdrubal Cabrera singled to right and that gave the Indians the lead for good. Jason Kipnis followed with an infield single and Cleveland had a 5-3 lead.

The bullpen was outstanding in relief of starter Zach McAllister, who pitched 6 and a third innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned. Joe Smith relieved him in the seventh and got credit for the win, his seventh of the season. Vinnie Pestano notched his 29th hold of the year and Chris Perez finished up in the ninth.

The Indians remain very much in the division race and will be on the road for a series this weekend against the Minnesota Twins.
