Coroner Says Partial Human Remains Are Those of Missing Boater

SANDUSKY, Ohio — The Erie County Coroner says that skeletal remains discovered in Lake Erie near Cedar Point last month are those of a Solon man who went missing last year.

Dr. Brian Baxter tells Fox 8 News that DNA tests of the remains match those of Charles Kaplan, 58, of Solon.

In October of last year Kaplan went missing after the boat he and his girlfriend, Pam Holstein, were aboard capsized. 

The Coast Guard conducted a search for both individuals after someone at Cedar Point Amusement Park reported their 36-foot Rinker capsized near a breakwall.

en the Coast Guard arrived they discovered Holstein’s body in the vessel. A search for Kaplan ensued before being called off after 12 hours.
