(CNN) — President Barack Obama, responding to the mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater, said justice will be done. “Such violence, such evil is senseless. It is beyond reason.” He said the victims “had hopes for the future, and dreams that were not fulfilled.”
Speaking at an appearance in Fort Myers, Florida, Mr. Obama asked for a moment of silence for victims of the massacre. e asked the nation to embrace their families. “There will be other days for politics. This will be a day for prayer and reflection.”
Meanwhile the campaigns for the two presidential candidates said Friday they were asking television stations to discontinue airing some political advertisements following a deadly shooting in Colorado.
Presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign will pull all television ads in Colorado, the candidate’s spokeswoman Andrea Saul said.
President Obama’s traveling campaign press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters aboard Air Force One the president’s campaign would pull “contrast advertising.”
“We have asked affiliates to pull down our contrast advertising for the time being. It takes time for stations to be able to do this, but we are making every effort,” Psaki said.
An advertisement slamming Romney for reports of offshore accounts is currently in heavy rotation from Obama’s campaign.
On Friday Romney’s campaign released an ad hitting Obama for remarks he made regarding small business last week in Virginia.
