Boehner Says President ‘Doesn’t Give a Damn About The Middle Class’
(CNN) — House Speaker John Boehner has recently stepped up criticism of President Barack Obama, but his comments Wednesday were particularly harsh, saying the president “doesn’t give a damn about the middle class Americans who are out there looking for work.”
“What he’s trying to do is distract the American people in order to win his own reelection,” Boehner asserted.
The House speaker pushed back on calls for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney to release more tax returns, calling the issue a “sideshow” Democrats designed to draw people’s attention away from the president’s handling of the economy.
“The American people are asking where are the jobs? They’re not asking where in the hell the tax returns are,” Boehner told reporters on Capitol Hill.
But when the speaker was pressed that some Republicans, including some in the House, are also urging Romney to release more financial information, Boehner brushed it off, insisting, “It’s not about the tax returns, it’s about the economy. The American people vote with their wallets.”
