EASTLAKE, Ohio — Police say a Kent man was arrested early Sunday morning for causing a head-on crash while allegedly drunk.

Lt. Thomas Angelo of the Eastlake Police Department tells Fox 8 News that Michael Danner, 24, was arrested early Sunday morning after a head-on collision in the 34800 block of Lakeland Blvd. The accident happened at 1:10 a.m.

Angelo says that Danner was driving a vehicle eastbound which crossed the center line and drifted over to the left side of the roadway.

According to Angelo the victim was heading westbound on Lakeland Blvd., and could not avoid the collision due to a fence on the right side of the roadway.

The victim tried to swerve left of center to avoid being struck but was hit by Danner’s vehicle on the right front of the car.

The driver had a passenger in the vehicle when it was struck. Both individuals, who hail from Willowick, were transported to Lake West Hospital for treatment. Their injuries were non-life threatening according to police.

According to Angelo, officers immediately smelled alcohol on Danner when they arrived at the crash scene. Angelo adds that Danner refused to submit to a breath test .

Danner was arraigned on charges of felony vehicular assault, OVI, and driving left of center on Monday in Willoughby Municipal Court.

He entered a plea of not guilty in Judge Harry Field’s courtroom and has a preliminary hearing slated for July 17th.
