VALLEY VIEW, Ohio -- Sparks fly for a Valley View couple this Independence Day. This year's 4th of July marks their 70th wedding anniversary, and they renewed their vows in front of family and friends.

In the Summer of 1941, then 21-year-old George Wolf met 17-year-old Bernice Simon at a dance in Cleveland's Slavic Village. Bernice Wolf remembers it as "flop" because there weren't many people there.

"But, he saw me and asked me to dance," Bernice Wolf said. George then got up enough nerve to ask for a date.

"We went roller skating and we liked that the best because we held hands all night. After that it was a done deal," Bernice recalls.

Over the years, George and Bernice have had five children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, many of whom attended Wednesday's anniversary celebration.

Michelle Katics, the couple's granddaughter, came all the way from Thailand.

"I wouldn't miss this for the world. The fact that they are having a 70th wedding anniversary is an inspiration to all of us. It's easy to justify flying around the world for this," Katics said.

Two years ago, George and Bernice's grandson Doug Treiber also got married on the 4th of July. He said he did it in honor of his grandparents' long marriage together.

"I just thought that that would be a nice way for me and Jackie to honor them, and pay homage to the family," Treiber said.

Bernice Wolf said there is no secret to a lasting marriage and it is actually quite simple when you love each other. George agreed.

"I still love you," he quietly told he wife of 70 years. "You still love me?" she asked. And, George answered "yes" with a kiss.
