Fox 8’s Stefani Schaefer has shared an update on her husband, Roger, this Fourth of July holiday.

Roger is recovering from a 12-foot fall from scaffolding that happened in April.

Stefani posts on her Facebook fan page regularly, to update viewers on Roger’s condition.

What follows is the entire message to her fans on July 4, 2012:

“I hope you are enjoying your 4th of July Holiday! My thoughts and thanks to all the men and women who have fought for our country to make it so great. I feel so blessed to have the freedoms that we have in this beautiful country. I am so sorry I haven’t given you an update on my Roger lately. Last week was full of many ups… and many downs. Roger’s brain CT and MRI led doctors to be suspicious about a few things… so he needed to do a repeat MRI last Thursday. While he was waiting for the test, he was not able to eat or drink that day and I think that led to him passing out. At the moment, I wasn’t sure what was happening – I was just terrified! To see him lifeless horrified me. Luckily a nurse and aid were in the room too at the time and I rushed out for more help. Everyone came running in. A few moments later he was back… thank God. Just after, everyone was around him and I asked him how he was feeling… he said, “I feel great.” That is what amazes me so much about Roger – he has remained so sweet and so positive during this horrific time. What an attitude! That sweet man. Even his nurses tell me how he listens to them and is very sweet. That’s our Roger! This last MRI results were stable and at this time doctors say no new action needs to be taken yet. Again.. thank God. Roger is still able to whisper. We haven’t heard him “talk” yet… but doctors say that will come with time. He always responds to me and the kids when we tell him we love him. He always says, “I love you too” and smiles. He answers short answer questions and most of the time, they are the appropriate answers. Many times, he just whispers about things and it’s not clear to us what he is saying. I can tell he knows what he wants to say… but the words are not coming out right. It’s been so sad and hard because as of now, Roger has no memories… no childhood memories, no memories of our lives together, no memories of our children. It is heartbreaking and so very painful. He is still healing and I just pray that starts to come back for him. If not, as I tell our children, we will reteach those memories to him through video and photos we’ve taken over the years. On the physical side of things, Roger is making incredible progress. Just three weeks ago, he walked three tiny steps. Today, he can walk around the hospital floor with an aid on each side. Just yesterday, he slowly walked on the treadmill for 2 five minute sessions. It was a beautiful sight! He has been eating “real food” now for the last two weeks. That has helped give him so much strength. I am bringing him “brain food” everyday… salmon, berries, green veggies, dark chocolate, almonds, etc. I figure every little bit helps to activate the brain. I can’t help but think nearly 10 weeks ago, we were told to say our goodbyes… because his brain injuries were so severe. Just 6 weeks ago, he was still in a coma… and some said he might never wake up. So, the fact that he is taking steps, smiling and kissing us is such an incredible blessing. When I see how fragile he still is… I think how we have such a long way to go… but then, I think of the amazing strides he has made and see that he has come such a long way. I know I am sitting here writing this today because of all the Awesome Prayers you have said for our Roger. There is no doubt in my mind that God is listening to all our prayers and healing Roger one day at a time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming along this journey with me and my family. Your comfort, support and prayers have carried us on those darkest days. I will always be so appreciative to all of you. Hugs and Blessings for a beautiful day for all of you! xo”
