SEATTLE, Washington — The tolls weren’t the only reason to avoid the SR 520 bridge Monday morning.

A Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) sign was warning drivers entering the bridge to be on the lookout for the walking dead.

The portable reader sign, facing the eastbound lanes on the west side of the bridge, was flashing the text “Warning Zombies Ahead” to drivers on their way to Bellevue.

A WSDOT spokesperson said it is unknown who altered the sign’s text but they are looking into it. A control box on the device appeared to have been tampered with and a gummy substance was stuffed into the keyhole.

The sign was alternating between the zombie warning and another message that read: “012 GHS WEOUTCHA YEW B***.”

GHS is an abbreviation for Seattle’s Garfield High School but there was no other indication as to who was responsible for the vandalism.

Road crews were dispatched to fix the sign.
