CLEVELAND, Ohio —

Two people were hurt after a theft suspect struck a car during a police chase Sunday night, Fox 8 News reports.

It happened just after 7 p.m. at West 117th Street and Lake Avenue.

Cleveland Police Sgt. Sammy Morris said officers were initially called to the Target store on West 117th Street for a theft in progress. They spotted the suspect fleeing the scene in his car, and began a pursuit.

The officers tried to get the man to stop with emergency lights and sirens, but he failed to pull over. The suspect eventually crashed into another car, then hit a utility pole at West 117th Street and Lake Avenue.

The suspect ran away after the crash, but officers soon caught up with him in a nearby yard. That’s when, Morris says, officers tasered the man for resisting arrest.

Cleveland EMS confirms that two people were taken to Fairview Hospital from the crash scene. Their conditions are unknown.

The 47-year-old suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.
