Reds Overcome Sickness, Beat Tribe 5-3
Cincinnati is a nice city to visit, especially in the summer time. But it has been unkind to Indians fans the past two nights.
The Reds took Game 2 in the battle of Ohio, 5-3, as Derek Lowe took the loss for the Wahoos.
The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a night when several Reds players were hit hard by a stomach virus. Mat Latos made an emergency start in place of Mike Leake, one of several Reds who fell ill.
While the Indians out hit the Reds 8-7, they did not have the two-run homer to help things along.
That big bop was supplied by Brandon Phillips, the former Indians second baseman. His two-run homer gave the home team a 5-2 lead, and the Indians’ Jose Lopez’s solo shot made it the final score 5-3. Phillips had three RBI in the game.
Michael Brantley, of the Indians, extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a basehit in the fourth inning.
The Indians and Reds face each other again on Thursday afternoon at the Great American Ballpark.
