Firefighter Hurt Battling Elyria Blaze

ELYRIA, Ohio — A firefighter was taken to the hospital when he was hurt on the job by a falling 12-foot shop light.

He was part of the unit battling the flames at the Robinson Building, located on Broad Street near Washington Avenue in Elyria.

Crews were called around 1:40 a.m. on Monday for a fire in the basement.

According to the owner of Graphic Signs, which occupies a portion of the building, the basement was abandoned.

The injured firefighter was taken to EMH Elyria Medical Center, but details on his condition were not immediately available.

No one else was hurt.

Firefighters said there was smoke and fire damage, but did not have an estimate on the extent.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
