Police Shoot Suspect After He Opens Fire During Standoff

LORAIN, Ohio — A domestic violence suspect is hospitalized after a shootout with police, Fox 8 News reports.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of East 30th Street in Lorain.

A Lorain County Sheriff’s deputy tells Fox 8 News that authorities were called to the scene by a woman who claimed her boyfriend was hitting her.

The deputy says that a brief standoff followed during which the suspect fired shots at officers. The officers returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was subsequently transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. His condition is not yet known.

Witnesses say that, before the shootings, the suspect crashed a car into an apartment while trying to get away from police.
