CLEVELAND — A man suspected of trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl last week at an RTA station has been charged in connection to the crime, prosecutors say.

Edward C. Crider, 37, made his initial court appearance on Monday and was formally charged with kidnapping.

Prosecutors say Crider is the man who attempted to kidnap a girl on the morning of May 30, 2012 near an RTA station on West 154th Street near Puritas Avenue.

Detective Jennifer Ciaccia tells Fox 8 News that Crider waived a preliminary hearing in connection with the alleged crime.

Crider was taken into custody on Friday, June 1, on Silk Avenue in Cleveland.

Police began circulating still images of the suspect last Thursday from surveillance video taken at the RTA station.

The girl told police a man followed her off of the train, then grabbed her arm and tried to shove her into some shrubs. She got free when a passerby yelled at the suspect, scaring him away from the scene.
