The Westlake Demons gave their long time coach Jeff Short a great retirement gesture. They won their state semifinal game in the Division 1 playoffs in Columbus on Thursday afternoon. The Demons beat Massillon Perry 6-2 to earn a spot in the title game on Saturday afternoon.

Short had announced that this season, his 24th would be his last at Westlake. He will continue as a teacher, however.

Corey Bowers got the Demons offense going, leading off the third inning with a solo homer. Westlake fell behind 2-1, but Bowers and company came back in the fourth. Bowers had a big ground rule double as the Demons clawed back to take the lead 3-2. One run in the fifth, and two more in the sixth made the final 6-2.

In a Division 2 state semifinal game, the Lake Catholic Cougars saw their season end as Columbus DeSales beat them 3-0.
