Fox 8's Stefani Schaefer gave a quick update Wednesday on her husband's condition. She said that Roger had a "better morning." Also, the nurses tell her that he seems to respond to her voice when she says his name on TV.
"I mentioned Roger's name yesterday on the air and a couple of days ago, and both times the nurses said the minute that I said his name on the air, he opened his eyes," Stefani told Kenny Crumpton and Wayne Dawson. "So they said, 'Can you say his name every day on the air?'"
Kenny and Wayne responded to that by repeating "Roger" several times during their subsequent segment.
"Today was a better morning than we had yesterday," Stefani told them, explaining that the daily changes are like a roller coaster of emotions.
"I have my moments," she confessed, her professional on-air demeanor notwithstanding. "I feel like I can't even stand up sometimes. ... God gets you through it, and my kids are getting me through it.
"Roger, I love you, and I'll be coming to see you in a few minutes at the hospital."
All along, Stefani has been updating her Facebook fan page to let everyone know how Roger is doing. What follows is her complete post from Tuesday:
"I am calling on all my Prayer Warriors. Yesterday at the hospital, the nurses said they couldn't wake up Roger… they waited until we got there. His sister, brother-in-law, mother and I came in… we couldn’t wake him either. There is concern he had slipped back into a coma. We spent the day with him, and a few times, he opened his eyes.. but it was very brief. His doctors ordered a CT scan and several tests. Last night he started fevering and I got the call at 3am that all sorts of things were going wrong. He is fighting an infection, they are trying to find the source to help them treat it. These setbacks are like getting punched and kicked in the gutt all over again. Please continue to pray for Roger… I am begging you to help him fight through this. Roger is a fighter and God is a healer…. please help us fight. I will keep you posted. I am planning on anchoring the 9am show this morning and going straight to the hospital… I let you know how he is doing. CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH."
Keep checking Stefani's Facebook fan page for further updates, and please, if you are able, continue to pray for Roger.
