CLIFTON, New Jersey — Brides in New Jersey are facing a potential dress disaster and for some it’s just days before they are to walk down the aisle thanks to Bridals by Roma in Clifton, New Jersey. The shop abruptly closed its doors with practically no explanation at all.

Different brides said they got different stories. Some, who were at the shop for alterations as recently as last week, said they were told the store was closed for renovations and they should pick up their dresses as soon as possible. Others said they were told the seamstress was sick.

No one from Bridals by Roma would answer PIX11 phone calls and no one would speak to PIX11 when we stopped by the shop for ourselves. Anxious, nervous brides were simply told to sign their names onto a list and were escorted in one by one.

Some women left empty handed and only given instructions to get in touch with the dressmaker directly. Others, who actually got their dresses out of the shop, said their dresses were incomplete and alterations were not done.

“At this point I want the dress. I want to be done with it and that’s it,” said one mother of the bride.

New Jersey’s Department of Consumer Affairs is urging customers to hold onto all their receipts and to call their office to file any complaint.
