OBERLIN, Ohio -- Employees at a Lorain County Animal Shelter are heartbroken after one of their dogs was stolen.

It happened Saturday morning at the Oasis Animal Shelter on RT 511 in Oberlin.

Surveillance video shows a man luring a beagle-pug mix through an opening in a fence.

"He lifted up part of our fence that wasn't attached to the concrete, and she slid out underneath there, and he just grabbed her, scooped her up and took her," Shelter president Vera Opel told Fox 8 News.

The 1-year-old pooch named "Sadie" was just recently spayed and put up for adoption.

Employees say they are very upset and hope the person who took Sadie will have a change of heart.

"We've never had a problem like this before. We have been here over 16 years, and it's the first time a dog's ever been stolen from oasis," said Opel.
